Matt Strauss

Matt, a board-certified specialist in family law by the State Bar of California Board of Legal Specialization, joined Feuerstein, Murphy & Beals, LLP, in 2020. Matt was born and raised in in Los Angeles, CA, until he moved to Louisville, KY in high school. Matt was a scholar-athlete at Vassar College in Poughkeepsie, NY, where he majored in English and played baseball. After college, Matt moved to San Diego and graduated from California Western School of Law in 2003 and began practicing family law at a small San Diego firm, Jones Barnes, LLP, which specialized in high-asset marital dissolution cases. From 2016 to 2020, Matt worked in the Family Law Department of a large San Diego firm, Procopio, Cory Hargreaves & Savitch, LLP. While at Procopio, Matt became a Certified Family Law Specialist and successfully completed the prestigious 8-day National Family Law Trial Institute in Houston, TX. In addition to marital dissolution cases, Matt has extensive experience drafting and negotiating premarital and postnuptial agreements.

Matt’s experience in Family Law began in high school when his parents divorced. Matt observed that both his parents were grateful for the attorneys who helped them navigate the divorce process in a dignified manner, which made a challenging time for Matt and his brother much easier. Matt’s goal as a family law attorney is to assist all of his clients in a respectful way because he knows divorce is stressful and difficult. Matt always tries to settle his cases; he believes almost all cases are capable of settlement and should be settled. However, on the rare occasion when settlement is not possible, Matt is willing and able to vigorously litigate the case in court.

When not practicing law, Matt enjoys surfing, fishing, and golfing with his boys and watching their various sporting events. Matt is committed to volunteering his time to give back to the community. He and his wife were volunteering at Serving Seniors the day his oldest son was born, and Matt sits on the Board of Directors of Serving Seniors. Matt sits on the Board of Trustees of the Donald A. Strauss Foundation, which provides $15,000 grants to 12 to 15 college students in California every year to perform a yearlong public service project. Matt has also volunteered his time with the Homeless Court for Veteran’s Village San Diego’s Operation Stand Down and doing pro-bono legal work through the San Diego Volunteer Lawyer Program.
